How Teeth Whitening Works

Have you ever wanted that shiny white smile you see in pictures, magazines and those toothpaste advertisements? Well, this flashy smile can be attained by various teeth whitening processes. Before understanding the process of teeth whitening, one must remember that we do not have naturally white teeth and they turn yellow because of time and the artificial coloring which is now present in almost all the drinks and food items available.

Teeth discolor due to lack of oxygen and thus teeth’s whitening is often known as oxidization of teeth.  In this process, the pores on the enamel of the teeth which are yellowed are oxidized with the help of chemicals which whitens them again. This off course is done by the help of chemicals like hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide commonly known as “bleach”. Though, in most cases hydrogen peroxide is preferred.

The most important aspect of teeth whitening is make sure that the teeth are not whitened to such an extent that they look unreal and artificial. Too much white is definitely not recommended as it shifts the focus to only your teeth and can cause some serious embarrassment. The whitening process consists of five shades, thus it is best to choose the correct shade to make your teeth look real. Now, there are various methods of teeth whitening. The most simple and common method is by using teeth bleaching products like whitening toothpaste, gels, strips, trays etc. These products are popular among the consumers because they are simple to use, inexpensive and easily available.

Another way to get shiny white teeth is by opting for laser whitening done by skilled dentists. This method assures shiny teeth but is often dismissed because it is not budget friendly. This method costs more than thrice the amount one might spend on the regular whitening items. Another method is by wearing bleaching trays for weeks to attain the perfect set of shiny teeth. This method is again not favored as it is extreme discomfort and is time consuming.

The best way to achieve the most effective results is by following the procedure religiously. There are organic whitening products being launched in the market but there success rate is still unknown. Sometimes, the whitening products have side-effects which affect the sensitivity levels in the teeth. Thus, one must always take their dentist’s advice before using any of these products of even going for any of the whitening procedures.
